AUSTIN MUSIC FOUNDATION CONFERENCE

It went down last night at the Lucky Lounge Austin Tx. Austin Music Foundation held their regular music conference last night with an all-star panel and one big surprise. The topic was Indie Labels: The Real Deal
ME TV (Austin's 24 hour music Channel) was in the house filming Mr. Bavu Blakes new show called "Smooth".

Monday October 2nd 2006 5:00pm I went to Rapid Ric's house right after work to hang out with my new roommates, when I got there Mr. Blakes, Da Ryno, Gerald Geezy and K Paul were there chilling. I was ready to have a beer and relax and chit chat with Bavu since I hadn't seen him in a few weeks. He said he was getting ready to head downtown to do an interview with Mathew Knowles, aka Beyonce's dad, aka head of World Music Ent, home of Destiny's Child and our homies group The Mojoe Family, at the AMF conference and asked if I wanted to come along. Hell yeah!!! So I took off downtown thinking that I was only gonna be there for an hour or so. Turns out I was there all night long. I got there around 5:50 and saw my man Vaughn chilling outside the Lucky Lounge. Yo what up Big V. Vaughn is a cool ass dude I met during this years SXSW fest. He works for Hot 93.3 here in Austin and is a straight grinder. If anyone has a major show or project coming up hit him up.

I ended up chilling outside with Vaughn until the doors opened. Bavu was already inside interview Mr. Knowles so I didn't get a chance to snap any shots of them together. That's unfortunate because that's why I went in the first place. The night ended up being pretty productive though. I ended up doing a little networking and running into some ol buddies such as Easy Lee, Tre and Aaron from the Mojoe family, who I had no idea were popping through, saw my ol pal Jason Krell the bar manager for Lucky Lounge, UZ, Eddie and Dru Fay from ME TV, Rich the bar manager for Antone's and of course Vaughn.
I also met some really nice beautiful girls volunteering for AMF.
Shanti S. and Stephanie K.

Steph just moved to Texas from New York??!!!! Go Yankees, I'll be rooting for them in the playoffs!!
Shanti eave me your contact info on my myspace page and I'll be sure to invite you to the next VEHICULAR show. Which is actually this Thursday night at Speak Easy on 4th www.myspace.com/tonycee

Ok now back to the show. Bavu did his interview with Mr. Knowles before the show started while I mingled and took pictures.
I found these little buckets pretty cool. You could drop business cards, flyers and demos for each panelist to check out. Now whether they check em out or not is anyone's guess.

I was so impressed with some of the panelist. They told the crowd some funny stories and gave us lots of great information. The panel included:

Angeles, CA

I had no idea what to expect at this thing so I grabed a beer took a seat by the bar and just listened to what everyone had to say and they had some great things to say.
Mr. Knowles is a funny guy. He started talking about 'radio' and how it's not their number one priority as a marketing tool and this and that. He kept clowning them until someone told him that the conference is going on a podcast he just laughed and said with a big smile "I love you radio!! I love you radio!!" It was a funny moment.
One of my favorite panelist was Phil Hinkle, A&R for Century Media, he was talking some real shit. I wasn't prepared to take any notes so I can't wait to see the video for this conference. Podcast?? I guess that means if you have an IPOD you can watch. I don't have an IPOD and really don't intend on buying one. Does that mean I'm shit out of luck? I hope not.
Ok so the conference was cool and you should look for the Podcast and if you find it let me know how I can get it and watch it.

See when you get signed to a major deal that doesn't mean it's time for you to relax and sit on your ass, NO, it means that it's time to put it into overdrive and show your label that they made a great decision in signing you. For example The Mojoe Family didn't have to be at a music conference about indie labels. They are already signed, but they came any way to slanged their debut Cd. Thanks Easy for the copy.
Easy Lee keep slanging them hot cakes

Man I was so impressed at how Bavu handled himself in front of the camera. He had no script at all. First thing that came to mind was damn this dude is freestyling through each segment and doing it on one take. He was so on point.

Ok so I said there was a big surprise. As you can see I was chilling upstairs with Bavu taking pictures and having some fun. Brad Turcotte walks up stairs for his interview and I look at him and he looks at me and he is like "Hey I know you, your last name is Chapman. You have a sister named Melissa. Hey we went to high school together!!" and I'm like "Yeah dude I recognize you too". It turns out we did go to high school together!!! How fucking strange and cool at the same time!! We talked for about ten minutes about what we do, how we are, our old friends etc...Man San Marcos High has turned out a friend good men. You got me of course the head of the class, Salih and Tomar Williams of Carnival Beats producers for Mike Jones, Bun B, Big Moe, A3, Basswood etc. Alex Espinosa producer for film maker Robert Rodriguez and it's late so I can't think any more. Any way, he invited me to his office in Houston when I'm down there next week. I hope to cover a whole bunch of good shit while I'm there. Well............

That's a rap!!!
