The night started off at Rapid Ric's house.

I sat around waiting for everyone to get ready for the Rakim show while everyone else in the house played XBOX 360. Ric was the first one ready and so me and him split to his friend Oxy Cotton's room. Oxy Cotton is a cool ass Dj/rapper from New York who was down for a show she had at the Beauty Bar on 7th street. Anyway, me and Ric headed over to her room and chilled for a little bit before we drove her to her gig. And then we took off to our gig. THE RAKIM SHOW!!!

Emo's, 6th street in Austin, Texas

And yes we are talking about that Rakim, of Eric B and Rakim. I guess he is on tour right now because he showed up in a big ass 'Meet the Fockers' tour bus.
Ok. Opening up for Rakim him was Ras Kass, Mr. Blakes, NickNack, Rapid Ric, D-Madness and Global.
As soon as we got to Emo's we were greeted by Mr. Blakes, Chuck Reece
(one of the best photographers around), Ntymydat and his lovely wife. Ntymydat is Mr. Blakes hype man -- don't discount his skills either because he has plenty of them. We were also greeted by the crew of ME-TV, Austin's 24-hour music channel. Just think MTV when they used to play videos and you have ME-TV. All the guys from ME that I've met have always been the coolest dudes. I'm glad Mr. Blakes will be a part of this cast of characters. Ummm well if you didn't know Mr. Blakes will be on ME-TV now. More details to come on that though. Man was it a hot, humid night in Austin. We were all sweating in our clothes. Basically, we sat backstage for about an hour having drinks and waiting for Mr. Blakes to go on stage. Once he went on stage.............. well he killed 'em.

This had to be one of the best shows in Austin this year! No joke. Mr. Blakes and company put on one of their best performances ever. D-Madness and Rapid Ric were one the same wavelength all night long. Rapid Ric was cuttin and scratchin on the turntables like a mad man. I've never seen him so on point. I'm sure he has been, but I wasn't there to witness it. Mr. Blakes and Ntymydat gave the crowed a very energetic performance. The crowd responded with loud cheers and followed along with their every command. The Sound guy was stracking until called out to turn up the sound, and then after that the show was on. All in all this was a great performance.
I don't know anything at all about Ras Kass so I'm just gonna go by how the crowd reacted to his performance. The crowd was already so pumped up from Mr. Blakes' performance and they wanted more and I think Ras Kass and company gave them a little bit of what they wanted. I was on stage with him and sat there and watched the crowd and from what I saw I thought the Austin crowd was really feeling him. By the end of
his performance, the crowd was ready for King Rakim!

Rakim, Rakim, Rakim is what they chanted. What can I say about Rakim? He is a living legend. One of the greatest MC's to walk the planet earth. MAN!!!! The crowed went crazy with every single song he sang. They really went totally Nuts!! My guys from ME-TV had the privilege of interviewing him after the show as did my man Mr. Blakes. WOW!!!
After the show I headed over to Rapid Ric's place where I proceeded to get ready to head out to H-Town to meet up with founding members of Swisha House Big Pic and Big Tike, and I was also going to met my girl in the H. Well, peer pressure is a BITCH!! Ric, Axsel, Wes, Johnny O and Buela all talked me into going to Mexico with them. Ric had a show the next night in Acuna, Mexico, and since I'm doing marketing and
promotions for him I felt that I should be there for this road trip. So there I go, along for the ride and boy was it a long ride....................

Sounds like a nice night. Just out of curiousity, did Rakim play all those old classics??

I hate it when those legendary emcees come to town and think we're all there for their new shit. Lord Finesse is heading my way next month and i'm hoping for that old 'Return Of The Funky Man' shit.

PEACE
